About

Amena Coronado teaches Philosophy at MiraCosta College, joining the college in Fall 2023.

I previously taught at Riverside City College from 2021-2023, where I created outreach activities to increase awareness and enrollment in philosophy courses, and Community College of Philadelphia from 2016-2021, where I created a philosophy reading group, served as a mentor for the Black Scholars Mentorship program, was selected as a fellow for the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning, developed new courses in philosophy, and earned tenure in fall 2020.

My primary research is concerned with suffering and 19th century philosophy. I teach undergraduate courses and give talks in the history of philosophy, moral philosophy, and on topics including hip hop & philosophy, philosophy of love, social & political philosophy, happiness & the good life, and philosophy of race.

Appointed to a three-year term in 2023, I currently serve as a member of the American Philosophical Association’s Committee on Philosophy in Two-Year Colleges.

purpose

The primary purpose of this website is to house materials for students enrolled in my courses. But I believe, like many other professors and scholars, that philosophy should have a public life alongside its life in the academy, so I've also included some resources for the study of philosophy within and beyond the classroom.
